Teams must register the day of competition at their designated times:
U-10 & U-12 Brackets Check-in at 7:50 A.M.
U-14 & U-16 Brackets Check-in at 8:45 A.M.

Number of Players: A team shall consist of a maximum of 5 players. A team must field a minimum of 2 players for the entire game. 3 players are on the field at a time. There are NO goalkeepers.

Player Substitutions: Substitutions MAY be made on the fly.

Player Equipment: All players MUST wear shin guards, NO EXCEPTIONS. Any player without shin guards will not be allowed to play. Each registered player must also be prepared to provide matching light & dark colored shirts for each game. If both teams are wearing the same color in the pool-play round, a coin flip will determine the team to change uniforms. During playoffs the seeded team will determine preferences. Numbers on jerseys are not required. Soccer cleats (no toe cleats,) turf shoes, or flat-soled shoes must be worn. Players may not wear rings (except wedding bands,) watches, earrings or hard hair pieces. Players will not be allowed to play with a hard cast (even if wrapped.)

Player Ejection: Referees reserve the right to eject a player from a game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending the player off. The team may then continue with their remaining players; however, if the player receiving the red card was in the field of play, the team must complete the game with only three players on the field. The tournament director will decide suspension from additional games.

FIELD OF PLAY
There are NO OFFSIDES and NO SLIDE TACKLING in 3 vs. 3 soccer.

Field Dimensions: The minimum playing field is 20 yards wide by 30 yards long. Goals are 2’ x 4’.

Penalty Box: Arc Rule: There is no ball contact allowed within the goal box; however, any player may pass through the goal box. If the ball comes to rest in the goal box, a goal kick is awarded regardless of who touched the ball last. Any part of the ball or player’s body on the line is considered in the goal box and is an extension of such. If a defender touches the ball in the goal box, a penalty kick is awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball within the box, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.

Seeding: Teams will be seeded according to the information provided on the entry form. Northridge Soccer Academy will schedule teams according to ability, age, and experience.

Ball Size: Size 4 balls will be used for every age group.

Goal Scoring: A goal may be scored from anywhere on the field. The ball changes possession after a goal is scored.

Restarts: All restarts are indirect kicks. This does not include Penalty kicks, which will be direct.

Kick Off: Is an indirect kick and may be taken in any direction.

Three Yard Rule: In all dead ball situations, restarts, including game start and halftime start, defending players must stand at least 3 yards away from the ball. If the defensive player’s goal area is closer than 3 yards, the ball shall be placed 3 yards from the goal line within the place of the penalty.

Kick-Ins: There are NO throw-ins. The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of throw in. The defending player must be at least three yards from ball on all kick-ins.

Goal Kicks: May be taken on any point on the defensive touchline.

Penalty Kicks: A penalty kick will be taken from midfield in front of an open goal. Per the Arc Rule, there will be no defending player/goalie contesting the penalty kick. All non-kicking players must be behind midfield. A penalty kick shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by the infraction (the infraction does not automatically result in a red card.)

THE TOURNAMENT
Competition Format: First round consists of a minimum of 3 games in a round robin format. The playoff rounds are single elimination. The Championship round is single elimination. Playoff overtime shall consist of a 5-minute sudden death “golden goal” overtime period, with a coin toss to decide kick-off direction. The first team to score in overtime is the winner. If no team has scored within the 5 minutes, additional 5 minutes overtime periods will be played until a winner is determined.

Game Duration: The game consists of two 10-minutes halves separated by a two-minute half-time period. Games tied after regulation play shall end in a tie except in the playoffs. At the discretion of the referee and the tournament director, a game will be forfeited if both teams are not present at game time. The present team will be awarded a win; the absent team will take a loss. Teams are responsible for waiting until their seed for playoffs has been determined. There are no time-outs in 3 vs. 3 soccer.

Tie* = 1 point
Loss = 0 points

* Tie breakers are decided by:
